The Romanian ESPON Contact Point functions within the University Centre for Human Geography and Territorial Planning “Innovative Territories, Regional Management and Spatial Interaction” Cuguat-TIGRIS from the Geography Department of the University “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” Iaşi. A recognized centre of excellence, Cuguat-TIGRIS has participated at several projects within ESPON 2006  Programme (ESPON 3.2- Scenarios for Europe 2015 and 2030,  ESPON 3.4.1 - Europe in the World,  ESPON 4.1.2 - Data Navigator II – ESPON Handbook for Data acquisition, harmonization and Quality Assesment).

In the frame of ESPON 2013, Cuguat-TIGRIS is partner in the transnational project group for the “ESPON database and data development”, project, our main task is to provide a database for all communes within Europe. The researchers of Cuguat-TIGRIS can thus provide consultancy and expertise to all Romanian beneficiaries interested in ESPON.

The mission of the Romanian ESPON Contact Point is to support the implementation of the ESPON Programme, by connecting the Programme activities, the national academic community and the decision makers, stimulating the integration of Romanian research institutions in the European scientific network.

The Romanian ESPON Contact Point is part of the ESPON Contact Point Network including all the 31 states participating at ESPON 2013 Programme.
